LAST SEASON: In just its second year of existence, the co-op between Chatham and Madison experienced a high level of success as it raced out to an impressive 12-0 start before finishing 17-5. It reached the final of the Morris-Union Girls Ice Hockey League tournament, where it was upset by Kent Place, 4-2.
HEAD COACH: Kevin Hannon, third year. 25-11 career record.
KEY PLAYERS GRADUATED: Chatham-Madison graduated four seniors from last year's roster, which included Maddie Gleason and Casey Marshall. Gleason posted 10 goals and 14 assists last year, while Marshall saw the bulk of the work in goal.
FORWARDS: This team certainly has some talent on offense, which is led by sophomore Molly Coyne, who was NJ.com's rookie of the year last year after a year in which she posted 29 goals and 21 assists. The offense also includes two other sophomores in Lauren Arias (14 g., 10 a.) and Hannah Bedell (11 g., 10 a.).
DEFENSE: Chatham-Madison's defense will be led by junior Jennifer Olnowich, who was named to the inaugural NJ High School Girls All-Star game in 2017-18. She posted eight goals and 12 assists while playing on the blue line last season. She was the leader of a blue line that was responsible for allowing just 30 goals in 22 games last season.
GOALTENDING: As mentioned above, Casey Marshall saw the majority of the starts last year for Chatham-Madison, but after her graduation it will be up to junior Ginger Boles to take over in net. In seven appearances last year, Boles was impressive as she allowed just five goals on 126 shots faced for an eye-popping .960 save percentage. She stopped 29 of 30 shots against a talented Princeton Day team in a 1-0 loss late in the season.
OUTLOOK: It's almost hard to fathom that Chatham-Madison is in just its third year of having a program, when you look at the amount of success it has had in its first two years. Last year this team showed it is right up there with the top teams in New Jersey, as it managed to win the season series (two of three) against a Princeton Day squad that has historically been near the top in NJ along with Morristown-Beard. It also hung tough with Morristown-Beard in a 4-2 loss at the end of the season. There is certainly a lot of promise for this program with a trio of sophomores up front in Coyne, Arias, and Bedell, as well as Olnowich on defense and Boles in goal. This team should once again be at or near the top of the Morris-Union Girls Ice Hockey League, and will look to win that title after losing to Kent Place in the final last year.
